Jessie Li immigrated to Staten Island with her family from Beijing shortly after her 2nd birthday. Growing up in the heart of New York City’s most forgotten borough churned up her desire to escape from the suburbs. She finally achieved her wish by attending New York University, located in the very eclectic Washington Square Park and graduating with a Bachelor’s in Economics and International Relations. She currently resides in a Lower East Side closet and works as a legal assistant in a corporate law firm. She has been a Starting Line Mentor since 2008 and will be joining Shared Stories for the first time this summer.
Lauren Moffett is a rare gem: a native Manhattanite! Her love of languages and travel itch have taken her to visit numerous places, starting first in Los Angeles to earn her B.A. in Chinese and Spanish at Occidental College, and then to Taiwan to practice Mandarin at many a night market food stand.
She currently works as an administrator of international programs that promote Chinese language education in the U.S. while also pursuing a Master's degree and certification for teaching at New York University. She joined CPA in 2010 teaching ESL classes and is excited for her new role as part of the Shared Stories volunteer team.
