Jessie Li immigrated to Staten Island with her family from Beijing shortly after her 2nd birthday. Growing up in the heart of New York City’s most forgotten borough churned up her desire to escape from the suburbs. She finally achieved her wish by attending New York University, located in the very eclectic Washington Square Park and graduating with a Bachelor’s in Economics and International Relations. She currently resides in a Lower East Side closet and works as a legal assistant in a corporate law firm. She has been a Starting Line Mentor since 2008 and will be joining Shared Stories for the first time this summer.
Tiffany Liao is a Taiwanse-American transplant from California. She graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English Literature and a minor in Spanish Language. She lives in Queens where she wakes up to the smell of arepas and currently works at Penguin Books in Marketing and Publicity. Tiffany looks forward to her first time participating in the Shared Stories program.

Hi,my name is Xinkai Ye. I will be in the 10th grade in September. I am 15 years old now and I like to play computer games, billiards, ping-pong and basketball. When I was born my name was Shehua Ye. Named by my father, it means "succeed in life", but my name was changed when I was 2 years old to Xinkai Ye. Named by my mother, it means "believe life will be OK". The reason my name was changed because in my home country, my name is pronounced strangely in Mandarin. My major will be law and writing when I attend in college.
My name is Jingling Li. I have been in the United States for about two years. I love to drink coffee; everyday, I have to drink at least one cup of coffee. I like to read, my favorite thing to do is borrow books from the library and then stay at Starbucks for the whole day. Sometimes, I am outgoing; I can laugh very loudly and talk for the whole day. But, sometimes I am quiet; I can stay in a place and not talk for the whole day. I like yoga because it makes me calm and relax. This is my second time in Shared Stories, I believe it will be fun!
My name is Wendy Ye. I am a senior at St. Edmund Preparatory High School. I came to America when I was 3. Although, I may not remember everything as an immigrant growing up in America, I have witnessed a tremendous number of immigrants struggling to sustain a life in America and because of this I am motivated to become a changer. I am instigated to move up the political chain and actually ignite some change in my Chinese community. Anyways, besides my aspirations, I am also a very social individual. I love meeting new people from various backgrounds but most importantly, I love leeching off of others' knowledge. I think the brain is incredible! Moreover, I also love to talk. I am a rather talkative person and when I open my mouth, it is incredibly hard for me to stop! Overall, I am extremely excited to be a new student at Shared Stories. I anticipate to hear the incredible stories and to utilize these stories to make a positive impact on my community!
